EWP TRAINING COURSE / EWP HIGH RISK LICENCE

The EWP/EWPA training course is designed for those who need to operate Boom Lift with a boom length of 11 metres or more. To operate this equipment you are required to hold a nationally recognised WorkSafe Licence to Perform High Risk Work WP class (commonly known as an EWP ticket or Boom Lift ticket). On successful completion of this course you will receive a Statement of Attainment; TLILIC0005 Licence to operate a boom type elevating work platform (boom length 11m or more) issued by Start Training, and a temporary WorkSafe Licence; Licence to Perform High Risk Work – WP. You then need to take this to Australia Post and pay a licence fee of $68.80 to WorkSafe Victoria to receive you five year WP Licence.

The courses include practical and theoretical training in EWP operation. On successful completion of the course you will have the knowledge and skill to operate the equipment in a safe and competent manner. Small class sizes ensure students receive maximum time operating the EWP. Part of the EWP theory component (workbook) is completed at home prior to the course. Please let us know if you need assistance with reading or writing.

The Yellow Card course is designed for those who need to use types of EWP’s that do not require a Worksafe High Risk licence. These include;

  • Scissor lift (class SL),
  • Vertical lift (class VL)
  • Self Propelled Boomlift (under 11 metres) – (class BL)
  • Trailer mounted Boomlift (under 11 metres) -(class TL)
  • Truck Mounted Boom – TM (under 11 metres)- (class TM)

Yellow Card Courses are held at our Ferntree Gully and Sunshine West Crossing Training Centres and provide training in Boom Lift and Scissor Lift ( class BL & SL). Our centre at Ferntree Gully is also equipped with a Vertical Lift.  If you require training any of the additional classes above (TL, or TM), we can arrange for you to do the course at an alternative location. Various locations are available throughout the Melbourne metropolitan area. On successful completion of this course you will receive an EWPA Yellow Card, which confirms that you have been trained in the safe use of the work platform(s) as noted on the ticket. Our EWP Training is conducted at four of our training centres located in Ferntree Gully, Carrum Downs, Campbellfield and Sunshine West. We conduct our EWP and Yellow Card Training at our Ferntree Gully, Carrum Downs, Campbellfield and Sunshine West training centres.

Our Ferntree Gully facility is located at Unit 3, 1825 Ferntree Gully Road, VIC. You can find our building behind Burdens Plumbtec (the large blue building). We conduct Forklift, Order Picker, Working at Heights, Elevated Work Platform and White Card courses at our Ferntree Gully facility.

Our Sunshine West Facility is located at 16 Enterprise Way, Sunshine West, VIC. We conduct Forklift, EWP, Yellow Card, White Card and Working at Heights at our Sunshine West Facility.

Our Carrum Downs training centre is located at 8 Sonia Street, Carrum Downs and we also conduct Forklift, Order Picker, Working at Heights, Elevated Work Platform, White Card and Yellow Card courses at our Carrum Downs training centre.

Our Campbellfield training centre is located at 2 The Crossway, Campbellfield and we also conduct Forklift, Order Picker, Working at Heights, Elevated Work Platform, White Card and Yellow Card courses at our Campbellfield training centre.

We have multiple types of plant available for training our students including elevated work platforms (boomlifts), scissor lifts and vertical lifts. During your training course you will have ample time on the equipment and be trained in a range of exercises and maneuvers.

All of our venues have multiple food options.

We provide free breakfast foods such as cereals, toast and fresh seasonal fruits that students can access throughout the day.

All venues also have a free coffee machine for fresh coffee along with a range of other hot drinks such as teas and cup-a-soups etc.

There are kitchen facilities available for student use at each venue including toasters, microwaves, sandwich presses etc.

There are also a range of local cafes and fast food locations within a short walking distance to our venues. Our Ferntree Gully and Hayward Road facilities are serviced by a food truck daily around 9.30am which sells a range of fresh sandwiches, hot pies and snacks.

Generally our classes begin at 8.00am each day Monday through to Saturday. Some of our classes begin slightly earlier at 7.30am, you will be informed of your class start time via a booking confirmation and a confirmation SMS sent to you a few days prior to your class.

Yes, we offer ample breaks throughout the day. An initial break is provided at 9.45am at which time a food van visits our Ferntree Gully location. Lunch and other shorter regular breaks are provided throughout the day.

We provide all safety equipment necessary for your course including hi-vis vest and hard-hats where applicable. All you need to bring is a sturdy pair of shoes (no thongs please) and adequate clothing. Please note that during winter months the temperatures within our warehouse can be low, please come with sufficient warm clothing on cold weather days.

Yes, once you have been booked in you will receive an e-mail with a workbook and other materials attached. The workbook should be completed prior to attending to ensure maximum time available for practical training. A hardcopy of the workbook and training materials can be provided on request and mailed out to you with sufficient notice.

Yes, you must complete your workbook prior to attending our class. Failure to do so may result you being denied access to your course on the day and a re-booking fee will be applicable. This is to ensure that students get adequate practical training on the machines and that the class isn’t being held up by those who haven’t completed the workbook.

Guys if you are curious, asking yourself if you should or shouldn’t take the course because you don’t know anything. The only thing I’m going to tell you is go for it. I’m a living witness I’ve went there for 2 of my license not knowing anything but the teachers are just so good at explaining and giving you experience on the machines the best. I just completed my LF-Forklift course at START Training and i could not be happier! The facilities and equipment are in perfect condition and if that wasn't enough Sergio and Dan made the experience 10times better! I've only attended the Grid-connect install course at this facility and that was a far superior to one I attended at Swinburne years ago. The practice set up in place was more thorough and the trainers had a good level of experience. The course does need to be longer, I'd say 1 week design and 1 week install, but this is a separate issue. I was impressed enough to enrol for the battery course here too.

But the trainers, Tamer, John and Jora are excellent in explaining, especially with examples for a good understanding, they are very patient in teaching the practical skills and theory.
