The combined TC2 and TMI2 theory training is delivered in a face-to-face classroom format over two days (14 hours total). This does not include the required practical training component to be completed after the course.

Post-Course Practical Requirements

TC2 – Austroads Practical Logbook & Assessment

After completing the theory component, learners must complete at least 20 hours of supervised practical experience on Category 2 roads with a registered traffic management company. This must be done within six months of completing the two-day course.

TMI2 – Site Setup Requirements

Learners must complete at least three (3) different traffic management setups based on Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) and Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGSs) relevant to their work environment. These setups must also be completed within six months of finishing the theory component.

All practical training for both TC2 and TMI2 must be completed under direct supervision on a declared TTM Category 2 road, where applicable.

Supporting Documentation

Each student must provide the following documents to support their work placement setups:

• Relevant Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS) or Traffic Management Plans (TMP)
• Copies of Pre-Start Meeting records, SWMS, JSEA, JSA, or toolbox meeting notes

To enrol in the TC2 / TMI2 Category 2 Traffic Management course, participants must meet the following prerequisites:

TC2 Prerequisites

• Successful completion of TC1 – RIISS00058 Traffic Controller Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads
• Minimum of 40 hours of practical experience as a traffic controller after completing TC1

TMI2 Prerequisites

• Successful completion of TMI1 – RIISS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set (TMI Essentials)
• At least one month of relevant practical experience applying the skills and knowledge from TMI1 in a temporary traffic management environment

OR

• Evidence of at least 12 live temporary traffic management setups, which may include high-speed or high-volume road environments, as well as at least two of the following:
  – Pedestrian and cyclist controls
  – Construction site setups
  – Lane closures
  – Shoulder closures
  – Night works
  – Use of portable traffic control devices
  – Motorway or freeway environments

• Evidence Required for Enrolment:
  – 12 completed traffic worksheets, timesheets or payslips covering a minimum one-month period, demonstrating at least 40 hours of practical work across 12 different setups/locations
  – A Self-Assessment and Third-Party Report, to be completed and verified by your employer
  – Photographic proof of identification (e.g., driver’s licence or passport)

• Language & Literacy Requirements:
  – Students must have basic English language skills and be able to read and write at an entry-level standard
