ORDER PICKER LICENCE COURSE STRUCTURE
Tailored to your experience your Order Picker Forklift Training will be conducted over a maximum of 2 days including both practical and theory training. The small class size of our forklift licence course ensures that students receive maximum time driving the forklift in our simulated warehouse.
A workbook is completed at home prior to the order picker licence course. Further theory is conducted in the class. An optional extra theory session is available to those who feel they may need it, free of charge.
Nationally Recognised Unit of Competency – TLILIC0004 Licence to Operate an Order Picking Forklift Truck
ORDER PICKER LICENCE COURSE REQUIREMENTS
- Have valid photo identification (click here for details)
- Be a resident of Victoria (or have a valid reason for completing your course in Victoria)
- Have basic English and numeracy skills. Please let us know if you need assistance with reading or writing
- Complete a workbook prior to your forklift licence course
- Students MUST be at least 18 years old to complete this course
ORDER PICKER LICENCE MELBOURNE COURSE OUTCOMES
On successful completion of this Order Picker Licence Melbourne course you will receive a Statement of Attainment; TLILIC0004 Licence to operate an order picking forklift truck issued by Start Training, and a temporary WorkSafe Forklift Licence; Licence to Perform High Risk Work – LO.  This temporary licence needs to be submitted to Australia Post within 60 days of completion of course, along with a fee of $68.80 to WorkSafe Victoria.  You will then be sent the five year licence.

OUR FACILITIES
Our Order Picker Training is conducted at our main facility located at Unit 3, 1825 Ferntree Gully Road. During your training course you will have access to our simulated warehouse where we also train with a range of forklifts including electric, gas, reach and counterbalance. During your training you will be taught how to operate an order picker including pre-start checks, maneuvering, loading pallets onto racking and many other exercises tailored to your ability.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Where do Start Training conduct Order Picker Training?
We conduct all Order Picker Training at our primary facility is located at Unit 3, 1825 Ferntree Gully Road, VIC. You can find our building behind Burdens Plumbtec (the large blue building). We conduct Forklift, Order Picker, Working at Heights, Elevated Work Platform and White Card courses at our Ferntree Gully facility.
What are the options for lunch and food?
A food truck visits Start Training’s Ferntree Gully Road facility every weekday (Monday to Friday) at 9.45am. This service offers a wide range of hot and cold food and snacks including sandwiches, pies, fruit, confectionery and drinks.
We have a student kitchen / cafe area with free fresh fruit, free fresh coffee and free biscuits. The kitchen area contains a large fridge, microwaves, toaster and a sandwich press that are free to be used by our students if they wish to bring their own food for the time they are with us.
We have vending machines located in our Ferntree Gully Road facility featuring a selection of drinks and snacks. The drinks vending machine serves Coca Cola, energy drinks and coffee milk amongst others and can accept coins, card (pay pass) and notes ($5 or $10 notes only). We also have a snack machine serving a variety of chips and confectionery which is coin operated only.
There are a number of shops and takeaways within a short distance of our Ferntree Gully facility including bakeries located at the Mountain Gate shopping centre, Red Rooster, On It Burgers, McDonalds, Subway and KFC. If you are unsure about their locations one of our friendly staff can direct you.
What time do the Order Picker classes start?
Generally our classes begin at 8.30am each day Monday through to Saturday. Some of our classes begin slightly earlier at 7.30am, you will be informed of your class start time via a booking confirmation and a confirmation SMS sent to you a few days prior to your class.
Are there any breaks?
Yes, we offer ample breaks throughout the day. An initial break is provided at 9.45am at which time a food van visits our Ferntree Gully location. Lunch and other shorter regular breaks are provided throughout the day.
What do I need to bring with me?
We provide all safety equipment necessary for your course including hi-vis vest and hard-hats where applicable. All you need to bring is a sturdy pair of shoes (no thongs please) and adequate clothing. Please note that during winter months the temperatures within our warehouse can be low, please come with sufficient warm clothing on cold weather days.
Will the training materials be provided to me prior to my class?
Yes, once you have been booked in you will receive an e-mail with a workbook and other materials attached. The workbook should be completed prior to attending to ensure maximum time available for practical training. A hardcopy of the workbook and training materials can be provided on request and mailed out to you with sufficient notice.
Do I need to complete my workbook before attending a class?
Yes, you must complete your workbook prior to attending our class. Failure to do so may result in you being denied access to your course on the day and a re-booking fee will be applicable. This is to ensure that students get adequate practical training on the machines and that the class isn’t being held up by those who haven’t completed the workbook.
I have difficulties with language, literature or numeracy, can I still complete the course?
Yes, we have a dedicated Student Welfare Officer that can assist you with your needs. We have successfully trained thousands of students including those with additional requirements. I had an overall great experience and took a lot of different courses: order picker, forklift, first aid, excavator, front-end loader, heights, and white card. I started off with forklift and since I haven't driven a car for years and haven't got my license it was a little difficult to drive at first, but I got a day of extra practice and became more confident in my driving ability before taking my forklift assessment. After that point I finished my excavator and loader tickets with confidence. The trainers and other staff for all the courses I took were cool and helpful and I had a good time. I'm considering to take traffic management as well to add on to my list of skills!
