Fast-Track Your Traffic Control or Management Qualification with RPL
Do you have previous experience in traffic management or already working in the industry? You may be eligible to gain your Traffic Control (TC) and Traffic Management Implementer (TMI) credentials faster through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

What is RPL?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows experienced traffic professionals to convert their existing knowledge and on-the-job skills into nationally recognised qualifications—without having to repeat training they already know.

If you’ve been working in traffic control or implementing traffic plans, RPL offers a quicker, more efficient way to get certified. By submitting evidence of your work experience, previous training, and relevant documents, you can earn the same qualifications as someone who completes the full training course.

Who Can Apply?
RPL is ideal for individuals who:

  • Are currently employed in traffic control or traffic management roles
  • Have significant past experience in the field
  • Are looking to formalise their skills and enhance their career prospects

DETAILS

How RPL Works – Step by Step

Step 1: Ensure Prerequisites Are Met
You’ll need to have completed certain units in sequence before applying:

  • CPCWHS1001 (White Card) is required before TC1 or TMI1
  • TC1 must be completed before TC2
  • TMI1 must be completed before TMI2 or TMI3

Step 2: Initial Discussion
We begin with a quick chat to understand your experience and goals. If RPL is a good fit, we’ll guide you through the next steps and confirm your eligibility.

Step 3: Gather Your Evidence
You’ll be asked to provide documents such as:

  • Traffic plans or site photos
  • Safe work method statements (SWMS), job logs, or logbooks
  • Existing licences or qualifications
  • References from employers
  • A current resume
  • Contact details for people who can verify your experience

Step 4: Submit Your Application
Send us your completed RPL form and supporting documents. We’ll review them and let you know if anything else is needed before assessment.

Step 5: Assessment Booking
Once we’ve confirmed your submission is complete, we’ll lock in a date for your assessment. We’ll also let you know what to bring on the day.

Step 6: Assessment Day
Your assessment may include:

  • A short refresher on relevant industry standards (like AustRoads or VicRoads guidelines)
  • A written knowledge check
  • A one-on-one discussion about your role and responsibilities
  • A practical demonstration or brief gap training if needed

Our assessors are supportive and experienced. The process is designed to confirm your skills, not catch you out.

Step 7: Results & Certification
If you meet all the requirements, you’ll receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment. This confirms you’re officially certified as a Traffic Controller or Traffic Management Implementer.

If any gaps are identified, we’ll work with you on a personalised plan to address them—whether that’s through additional training or a follow-up assessment.

Why Choose RPL?

  • Save time: Skip redundant training and get certified faster.
  • Save money: Only pay for the assessment, not a full course.
  • Advance your career: Formal qualifications open doors to better job opportunities and contracts.
  • Industry recognition: Your skills and experience are officially acknowledged.
